Gustave Courbet Jigsaw Puzzles

Painter, Sculptor

Gustave Courbet was a French painter who led the 19th century Realism movement in his country. He rejected the rules, regulations and romanticism espoused by the previous generation of painters. Courbet achieved his first successes thanks to paintings created during the late 1840s and early 1850s. He painted a wide range of subjects: farmers, workers, landscapes, hunting scenes, nudes and still lifes. Additionally, Courbet was politically active. In 1871, he was imprisoned for six months due to his involvement with the Paris Commune, and in 1873 he went into exile in Switzerland, where he was to spend the last years of his life.

Birth: 10th June 1819 in Ornans, France.
Death: 31st December 1877 in Tour-de-Peilz, Switzerland.
