Camille Pissarro was born into a bourgeois family, studied in France, then returned to help his father in the West Indies before returning to France in 1855 to begin his career as a painter. He married Julie Vellay in 1860 and had eight children with her. He became friends with Claude Monnet at the Swiss Academy. His students included Paul Cézanne and Paul Gauguin. He is considered the father of Impressionism. He left more than 1,500 artworks.

Birth : 10 July 1830 in Saint-Thomas, the West Indies.
Death : 13 November 1903 (at the age of 73) in Paris, France.
